BMW is readying a rival to the likes of the Mercedes GLS and Range Rover in the X7. The car will be unveiled this September at the Frankfurt motor show, alongside the i3S electric hatchback and the next X3 SUV.
The X7 will be a seven-seat SUV, and will be the largest SUV made by the Bavarian carmaker. There isn’t any news on the oily bits that the SUV will use, but it’s likely to be powered by a set of six- and eight-cylinder engines. These could include a 3.0-litre diesel in 30d, 40d and 50d guises and a twin-turbocharged, 4.4-litre petrol V8. Hybrid models are also likely on the cards.
The carmaker is tight-lipped about the prices for the luxury SUV, but as per Ian Robertson, head of sales and marketing “Given that this car will have all the technology and luxury of the 7-series, it gives you a pretty good idea of the price point we’re talking about.” As per the statement, the X7 could very well be a rival to the Bentley Bentayga and Mercedes’ upcoming Maybach SUV.
