Energy Efficiency Service Ltd. (EESL), a joint venture company of PSUs under the Ministry of Power, Government of India has issued a tender to procure 10,000 electric Cars and 4,000 chargers for the coal, mining, power, and new and renewable energy ministries. The body also wants to rent them to other government departments, according to a PTI report.
The government is on an aggressive and ambitious push for e-mobility in the country – it aims to electrify all vehicles by 2030. According to the tender, 3,000 AC (alternate current) or slow chargers and 1,000 DC (direct current) fast charger’s compatible with Bharat AC-001 and DC-001 charger specification will be procured.
Mahindra Electric, Mahindra Group’s electric vehicle arm has already invested ₹600 crore in the EV business. The company plans to raise capacity to 60,000 units a year. It’s currently building a plant in Chakan that may have an annual capacity of 48,000 units and the existing Bengaluru plant’s capacity will be increased to 12,000 units, from 5,000 units currently.
The company is also working on new electric drivetrains capable of making power between 41-204hp and traveling a distance of 250-350km on a full charge.
M&M and EESL are gearing up to officially enter into a public-private sector partnership.
