BS-IV emissions norms came into effect on April 01, 2017, post which, it became mandatory for all two-wheelers sold in India to comply with the new emissions standard. The rush to meet the deadline created a lot of ruckus for some bikemakers, but most have successfully uprated their offerings with the regulations.

Hero MotorCorp, however, has taken a different approach to the issue. Instead of upgrading its motorcycles, it has made this an opportunity to streamline its portfolio. It has axed quite a lot of its bikes – Karizma R, Hunk, Xtreme, HF Dawn, Splendor iSmart, Splendor NXG, Splendor Pro Classic and Splendor Plus. Of these, the Karizma R is likely to be replaced by a new 250cc motorcycle.

Hero’s scooter range comprising the Duet, the Pleasure and the Maestro Edge remains unchanged, as they were upgraded to BS-IV before the April 1st deadline.

As of now, there’s no word on whether the discontinued bikes will be brought back after being upgraded for the new emission norms.
