Honda’s Africa Twin's India launch has been confirmed, but only a DCT (dual-clutch transmission) variant will be sold here. According to YS Guleria, vice-president of sales and marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) the bike is expected to be launched in July India.
The Africa Twin is powered by a 998cc, liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine and comes with two transmission options globally – a six-speed manual and a six-speed DCT. This capable off-roader is built using high-tensile steel, has high ground clearance with a low seat height option and a long 62-inch wheelbase. The anti-lock braking system and its advanced traction control system comes with three modes for different terrain.
The bike would have launched much sooner, but an earthquake in the near Honda’s Hamamatsu plant where the assembly kits for the Africa Twin were being developed halted production majorly. The bike was initially showcased in India at the 2016 Auto Expo where HMSI announced that it would be introducing the bike on Indian shores for the first time. Catering to a rising need for adventure touring motorcycles in India, the bike is expected to be priced around ₹13 lakh.
