The all-new WagonR will go on sale in India around Diwali this year. Maruti is currently targeting sales of 18,000 cars a month. The outgoing WagonR, sold 1,68,644 units in FY2017-18. Spy shots show a heavily cladded new WagonR being tested on Indian roads and you can see from the images that it retains its slab-sided, ‘tall-boy’ design.
The car will offer incredible space as well as a decent-sized luggage bay. The latest-gen WagonR is already on sale in Japan, but the India car will look different. The 1.0-litre K-series engine will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and there will be an AMT automatic option as well.
Interestingly, the new car will not be built on Suzuki’s new Heartect platform. The new WagonR will take on the likes of the Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid, Maruti’s own Celerio and Hyundai’s upcoming Santro.
