Mercedes has been enjoying its success as they recently posted their highest-ever sales figures. The German luxury carmaker sold 11,869 cars in the Jan-Sept 2017 period. Mercedes not only broke its own record while doing so, the company is now the best-selling luxury car brand in India.
Mercedes’ MD and CEO Roland Folger recently said that these high sales figures are thanks to the success of their new long wheelbase E-class and of course, the GST benefits buyers had been receiving. The luxury car manufacturer was one of the first carmakers to offer discounts on its models after the implementation of GST. This move worked remarkably for the company and saw many buyers rushing to the Mercedes showrooms. Sales, however, have dropped post-GST rollback.
Mercedes expects the sales momentum to drop in the next quarter after the GST rollback. Coming to the new E-class, prioritising the backseat comfort on the long wheelbase model has seen customers flocking to it. Besides the E, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and GLC contributed significantly to the company’s overall sales. Folger maintains that diesels in India are here to stay in the luxury car market. He has a sales ratio of 70-30 percent in favour of diesel variants to back his claim.
