The Czech carmaker has officially appointed Gurpratap Boparai as the Managing Director of its India operations. The move will be effective April 2, 2018 and the position, which was left vacant after Sudhir Rao left the firm in May 2017, will now be filled.
Boparai was CEO of Fiat India from 2012 until recently, and he has worked in the automobile industry for over 25 years. Boparai has also worked with companies such as TELCO (now Tata Motors), Ocap Chassis Parts, Iveco and Tata Cummins.
Skoda has stated that the Indian market plays an important role in its global growth strategy. Skoda is working on a low-cost ‘Eco’ car platform based on the modular MQB A0 for markets like ours. Cars built on this platform will hit showrooms in 2020.
