Ford’s latest 1.2-litre motor will be the second-gen version of the ‘Dragon’ family. The first of these new engines was a 1.5-litre unit that made its appearance in the new EcoSport. The new engine will first appear in the upcoming hatchback from Ford. After which, the engine will also make its way into facelifted Figo and Aspire.
This new motor is being produced at the company’s new high-tech plant in Sanand. Similar to the 1.2 version, the 1.5 will also be an all-aluminium unit. The three-cylinder motor also shares the engine block. The cubic capacity for the 1.2-litre engine was scaled down using tinier pistons. The 1.5-litre motor features a balancer shaft that the 1.2 does not have.
The new Dragon engine has set a benchmark in the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre class with segment-best figures. The little 1.2 makes an impressive 95hp and 115Nm of torque. The upcoming car from Ford is built on the Figo platform and will feature SUV-like features like increased ride height, bigger wheels and more cladding. Interestingly, the front of the car looks like a mini-EcoSport with its large grille and straight bonnet.
