Here is a sneak peak of the Honda Civic Type R. These images were leaked ahead of the car's official reveal at the Geneva motor show. The Type R is expected to get more power than the current 310hp 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol. It will also keep its front-wheel-drive setup, despite a lot of its rivals using four-wheel-drive setups. The car will be manufactured at Honda's plant in Swindon, UK. The production car is near-identical to the Type R concept shown at Paris motor show last September.
The new Type R’s development is happening alongside the new Civic (saving on engineering time and resources), compared to the outgoing Type R which had to be heavily re-engineered from the standard hatch. The car’s chief designer Daisuke Tsutamori had said, "We have a lot more downforce from the design and aero package."
The new hot hatch will see a slight price increase over the existing model on sale internationally. Honda is contemplating launching the new Civic in India towards the end of this year. We will, however, only get the standard sedan, and this hot Type R won’t make its way here for the time being.
