The company will showcase its first semi-autonomous car this year and the production version is likely to be launched in 2018. The DS 7 crossback SUV features Level-2 self-driving technology and PSA will follow it up with the Citroen C5 Aircross in the second half of 2018. The company plans to introduce fully autonomous Cars by the year 2020.
At Level-2, the DS 7 crossback can maintain the car in its lane and shift to let other vehicles pass. The car will also feature a self-parking facility as part of its advanced driver assistance system. The company will roll out Level-3 vehicles from 2020 and is working with a fleet of 12 prototypes that feature Level-3 self-driving capabilities. The cars will include the Citroen C4 Picassos and Peugeot 3008 GTs with an automatic transmission.
The company is working on an autonomous prototype of the Peugeot 3008 GT and it comes equipped with five cameras, five lidar sensors, four short-range radar sensors and three log range radar sensors, giving 360deg coverage around the Car. With what the company calls 'Eyes off' tech, the car will be able to drive itself on roads with high traffic mobility as well.
The programme will be launched under the banner of 'Autonomous Vehicles For All' and it will gradually introduce its self-driving features in all of its cars, starting with the premium cars and eventually filtering down to smaller cars.
