Volvo’s Performance sub-brand has spun off the manufacturer to become a standalone brand. Earlier, Polestar was like Mercedes’ AMG and BMW’s M brand however, now it has teased a new coupe model ahead of its reveal on October 17.
Polestar’s official Instagram page was used to tease the public with images of the upcoming car. However, the images reveal very little aside from the taillight, which looks very much like Volvos design. The car is expected to look similar to Volvo’s Concept Coupe that made its debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. At the time, the concept was powered by a hybrid motor making a claimed 400hp and 600Nm of torque.
The upcoming coupe is expected to use the mechanicals from the XC90 T8, which uses a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with forced induction and a hybrid motor. The car is expected to be Polestar’s first offering and is due sometime in 2018.
