The residents of the Amanora Park Town had installed tyre killer spikes to prevent vehicles, particularly two wheelers, from using the wrong side of the road. The Pune police sent a legal notice to the management asking them to be removed, since use of the tyre killer on public roads had been done without permission of any government agency. The police also said that the device is not approved by the Indian Road Congress since there are risks associated with it.

Traffic police inspector, JD Kalaskar said, “The spikes are very sharp and can turn fatal if someone falls there. Especially with the school around, the risk is severe. They had not sought permission for any such installation. Even though it has been put up inside the township, the road is being used by the masses and we have to ensure their safety.”

The management of the township said in a statement that the measure had been introduced to ensure the safety of the children attending the nearby school. The statement said that there was a significant number of accidents on that spot before the spikes were installed. The management stated that the number of vehicles plying on the wrong side has gone down after the installation.

Despite the extreme measure to curb accidents and wrongful road usage, the installation of spikes was widely hailed on various social media platforms.
