  • Things to know about the Hyundai AH2 hatchback

We have been seeing continuous launched from the Korean car brand this year. First we got the i20 Hatchback and the Creta SUV, both well accepted. Well, the company still has a few more launches planned for 2018. One of these is the new hatchback called the AH2. The new car was spotted testing in India on many occasions and has drawn a lot of interest.

Here is a list of 5 things you need to know about this upcoming car.

It will be an Eon replacement

Hyundai’s AH2 hatchback will go on sale in the festive season this year. It will be the replacement to the manufacturer’s Eon. The car it will replace has been on sale since 2011. The only update it got was the new engine in 2014. In terms of pricing, we expect the new car to cost slightly more than the Eon. Competition-wise, it will take on the Alto K10 and Tata Tiago.

It will be the Korean carmaker’s first AMT

The motor in the upcoming hatchback will be a retuned version of the company’s new four-cylinder motor. We first saw this motor in the Santro Xing. At the time, it could be had with either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. But the auto box won’t be making a comeback. Interestingly, this new hatchback will come with an automatic but it will be a five-speed AMT.

Safety levels will be higher

To meet modern safety regulations, it will not be based on the Eon platform. Instead, it will use the earlier i10’s chassis. We expect the car to get dual front airbags, ABS and parking sensors in the rear. This will give it an advantage over competitors like the Celerio because it only gets a single airbag and ABS as standard.

High quality interiors and equipment

As we know, Hyundai’s cars are well known for their quality levels. Knowing Hyundai, we don’t expect this upcoming car to fall short in this department. The car will come with dual-tone interiors and feature bits from the bigger Grand i10. The gear lever in this car will also be a dash mounted one. Other equipment will include the infotainment system from i10 in the top-spec model.

We may see the return of the Santro name

For the time being, the new hatchback is being called the AH2. But that is just Hyundai codename for the test car. For the production model however, we may see the Santro name making a comeback. The Santro was the car that helped established Hyundai in India. Another thing this car will share with the Santro is its ‘tall-boy’ design.
