The company’s new SUV concept, the Tj Cruiser, will make its official debut at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.
The company says the car is "for drivers with lifestyles where work and play dovetail seamlessly." The concept’s name comes from ‘toolbox’ and ‘joy’ (Tj). The car is styled to look like a boxy angular SUV, and has special coating on the hood, roof and fenders to protect the car against scratches and dirt. It also uses a sturdy suspension and 20-inch wheels wrapped in chunky tyres.
The lifestyle SUV also features plenty of tie-down points and deck boards for easy anchoring of equipment like surfboards and cycles.
So far there are no details on the car’s technical specifications but the car will be built on the company’s next-generation TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture), which also underpins the new Prius.
