The company could add a pseudo-estate bodystyle to its Arteon range. The new Audi A5 Sportback-rivalling Arteon is expected to hit UK showrooms this October and slots in to the gap left by the Phaeton sedan that was discontinued from UK sales in 2015.
The car will be available with a 280hp, 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and a 240hp, 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine, both will be four-wheel drive and will be mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic gearboxes as standard.
Volkswagen head of product line Elmar Licharz said, "It's our intention to turn the Arteon into a model family. Right now, we have a proposal on the table for a stylish wagon version to compliment the hatchback. The car has not been confirmed for production yet, but it has a good chance."
In our country, VW recently launched the Tiguan SUV and could most likely launch the Passat sedan soon.
