At the ongoing Detroit motor show, VW unveiled a new Jetta, which features sharper design cues and is fitted with a new eight-speed automatic transmission.
The sedan is built on the same platform as the current Golf and will be positioned below the Passat in Volkswagen’s US range. The car offers more room on the inside thanks to its increased dimensions. The exterior looks a lot like the bigger Passat, while the cabin resembles the Euro-spec Golf. There’s also VW’s latest MIB instrument cluster, a 10.2-inch Active Info Display and a new dashboard-mounted touchscreen infotainment system.
The New Jetta is powered by a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine which puts out 150hp and 250Nm. You can choose between either the older six-speed manual gearbox or the new eight-speed automatic. Slow sales of the previous car prompted VW to stop selling it in India.
