Polestar’s first hybrid coupe prototype has been testing at the Arctic Circle and the company has been evaluating the car’s 600hp drivetrain, batteries and torque vectoring system, in temperatures that reached -28degC. Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath said, "This is a driver's car." It will be on display at the Beijing motor show, and will go on sale in 18 countries, initially. Only 500 examples of the 1 are due to be sold each year.
Around 6000 people have already expressed an interest in the car, and the price tag will be set at around (approximately Rs 1.07 crore). Ingenath said the car is a “technological spearhead” and added that after the 1 hits the market, the company will make only all-electric performance cars.
The all-electric Polestar 2 crossover sedan will launch in early 2020 and a full-sized Polestar 3 SUV will arrive after that. The 1 coupé will produce 600hp from a front-mounted 2.0-litre turbo engine, plus twin electric motors on the rear axle.
