The production version of its 8-series will be shown ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the final production car will arrive on June 15, 2018.

In the build up to the final product, the company showed three concepts, including the 8-series concept, and an M8 Gran Coupé concept. The company is racing a version of its 8-series, called the M8 GTE, in this year's World Endurance Championship, of which Le Mans is the most illustrious round. The car will rival the Mercedes-Benz S-class coupé and Bentley Continental GT. Like the 4-series and 3-series are related, the 8-series is related to the 7-series.

Engines will be closely related to the 7-series, so it will share naming conventions and engines with its sedan sibling. So, you can expect an iPerformance-badged plug-in hybrid, an entry-level 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel engine, a 4.4-litre V8 in the 750i xDrive, accompanied by an all-wheel drive version. There could also be a V12-engined model that will come later in the 8-series’ life cycle.

The most potent version will be the upcoming M8 form, with its own more aggressive bodywork. It will feature a more powerful version of the M5’s 600hp, 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine and share the same M xDrive four-wheel-drive system.

The cabin will be similar to the 7-series and will feature the latest and next-generation semi-autonomous functions.
