Continuing with its model onslaught at the 2018 Auto Expo, BMW today debut its i3S electric hatchback in India. Only recently unveiled internationally, the i3S is a sportier version of a regular BMW i3.
The i3S comes with a more powerful synchronous electric motor rated at 184hp which is 14hp more than the standard i3, while torque output is higher by 20Nm at 270Nm. Performance has got a bump over the standard car. It uses a 33.3kWh lithium-ion battery wand BMW claims that it will deliver a maximum range of 280km.
Buyers can also opt for an ‘range extender’ model, which with the help of a rear-mounted 647cc two-cylinder petrol engine acts as a generator and provides electrical charge to the floor mounted battery when required. Although this will also result in a 120kg increase in kerb weight.
BMW i3S also gets a broader rear track, a re-tuned lower-suspension setup along with slight changes to the exterior and interior.
BMW has not confirmed any India plans yet and says that it is gauging public response to check for its feasibility in India. The i3 currently sells for around ₹30 lakh in the USA.
