After introducing two models in India in 2016 – the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler Unlimited – Jeep has now introduced the petrol-powered version of the Wrangler at ₹56 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
The petrol Wrangler gets a 285hp 3.6-litre V6 motor in place of the 200hp 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel, but like on the diesel, a five-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel-drive are standard.
Price wise, the Wrangler is in the same band as the Land Rover Discovery Sport, the BMW X3 and the Mercedes GLC, but this off-roader doesn’t have any direct rival in India.
Following the Wrangler, Jeep is also going to introduce the same petrol engine on the costlier Grand Cherokee SUV. On the Grand Cherokee, the engine makes 295hp and will be paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
