The (FCA) Fiat Chrysler Automobiles-owned Jeep brand has launched its first ‘mass-market’ car, the Compass, in India. Prices start at ₹14.95 lakh for the base Sport petrol variant, and go up to ₹20.65 lakh for the Limited (O) diesel variant (ex-showroom, Delhi).
This is Jeep’s third model in India and it’s available with two engines - a 162hp, 1.4-litre Multiair petrol and a 173hp, 2.0-litre Multijet II turbo diesel. The diesel engine is available with a six-speed manual gearbox, with a nine-speed unit set to join the line-up in January, while the petrol comes with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. There are five trims for the diesel and three for the petrol car. The Compass comes with a 3 Years/1 lakh kilometres warranty.
The top-spec Limited variant features a four-wheel-drive system and it comes fitted with Jeep's Selec-Terrain traction system as well. This version also comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control and an electronic parking brake.
FCA will produce the SUV at its Ranjangaon facility for the domestic market and for right-hand-drive markets around the globe. Over 65 percent of the Compass' components have been sourced locally, according to the company.
The company currently has 50 dealerships and is planning on expanding its footprint rapidly.
