A few days back, news of the next-gen SsangYong Rexton, which is the production version of SsangYong LIV-2 concept, making its way to India to be sold as a Mahindra product was reported. It is now confirmed that the model will be revealed at the Seoul Motor show 2017 and SsangYong has released a few sketches prior to the car’s much-awaited reveal.

This product will be placed above the XUV500 and is codenamed Y400 for now. The sketches reveal the car's defined design style. The front stays true to the earlier revealed details of the concept (mainly the bumper and grill). The front is also suited with chrome accents as well as strong bonnet creases. Also present are LED daytime running lamps on the bumper with additional LED units above the headlights and on the inserts too. More chrome finds its way to the side of the car, running across the length of the doors. The burly wheel arches tower over the alloy wheels, that match their look well with the rest of the SUV.

It is expected that Mahindra will play around a little with the design of the car to include the Mahindra family resemblance. An all-new grill and distinctive vertical elements have been constructed for this purpose.

The interior of the SUV is certainly on par with the rest of the car, with a 9.2-inch touchscreen display. It will come equipped with all kinds of facilities such as Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Backseat passengers will also have access to control these functions. Plus, the backseat may also come with a massage function. Other exciting features include mood-lighting, electric sidesteps and technology that creates an illuminated path for occupants approaching or leaving the car.

The size of the car makes it clear that it will be in direct competition with the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, especially with a wheelbase of 2,865mm. In India, the SUV will be powered by a 184hp, 2.2-litre, turbo-diesel engine that churns out a healthy 420Nm of torque. This engine will be mated to a six-speed manual or a seven-speed automatic. A 225hp, 2.0-litre, petrol engine is likely to be added later.

The SUV is expected to make its way to Indian shores by late 2017.
