Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers said recently that there could be one more stand-alone AMG model that will be sold alongside the existing GT Coupé and new GT 4dr Coupé.
Both those cars are standalone models and not Mercedes derivatives. But, he also added that there won’t be a unique AMG SUV. We’re not sure what the new car will be but it could be a smaller, more affordable sports car that will compete with Porsche’s Boxster and Cayman.
Moers also stated that the GT 4dr Coupé will be powered a 4.0-litre V8 hybrid powertrain that will make 811hp. The hybrid set-up will be here in 2020 and it is likely to use the ‘EQ Power+’ alias. The car should be able to hit 100kph in under three seconds. The engine may also be used in the S-class and the next GLS (or even a Maybach model). Essentially, it may replace the engine in the ‘65’ models that come 6.0-litre V12 engines.
