  • New Car Trivia: Renault Captur

The India-spec SUV resembles the European Captur, but that’s where the similarities end - the European Captur is built on the same platform as the Clio hatchback, while the version is built on the Duster platform.

The car is already sold in some markets abroad, but India will get the first right-hand-drive version. The Captur will be built on the versatile M0 platform and there’s lots of locally sourced content for this platform in India. The same platform will also underpin the India-spec Nissan Kicks crossover.

In India, the car is expected to use the tried-and-tested 1.5-litre petrol unit and the 1.5-litre K9K motor, but tweaked to make power and torque. For now, there is no automatic gearbox at launch, but it could come with the four-wheel-drive version.

As far as pricing and equipment is concerned, expect it to come loaded with tech and priced somewhere around Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). It will come fitted with full-LED headlamps with LED DRLs, an optional contrast roof, dual-tone interiors, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with media navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.

The company has stated that it will bring the crossover to India before the end of 2017.
