Range Rover will soon launch the Velar, its fourth car here in India. The Velar will sit between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport and was expected to make its way to India only in 2018. However, the car will be launched in India by late-2017. The Velar made its global debut at the Geneva motor show this year.

Every aspect of the car oozes luxury and Range Rover has given this car smoother lines and a sleeker look. It comes with laser technology headlights, and the classic LED daytime running light pattern. Other highlights of the design are its 2,874mm wheelbase and aluminium architecture that’s shared with the F-Pace, alongside which it is being built at the Solihull plant of Jaguar Land Rover. Unlike the F-Pace, the Velar is all-wheel drive only and comes with Land Rover’s full suite of off-road technology, including Terrain Response 2. Its wade depth is 650mm and is also a touch longer than the F-Pace, at 4,800mm.

The interiors are cutting-edge too. A Touch Pro Duo infotainment system equipped with two 10-inch touchscreens that activate only when the car starts is the main feature. Both the screens handle different function like the top screen manages the media interface, reversing camera displays and navigation while the bottom screen manages services like the controls for the terrain response.

There are no details on which engine the Indian Velar will come equipped with. For now, the car is available with six different power options globally. There’s a base 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium diesel unit in 180hp and 240hp guises. The entry-level petrol engine is a new 2.0-litre Ingenium unit that makes 250hp. A more potent 300hp version of this engine is expected to join the line-up later. The V6 range-toppers are a 300hp diesel and a 380hp petrol engine. The petrol V6 is supercharged — the only non-turbo engine in the range — and will power the Velar from 0-100kph in 5.3sec. The car is great for off-roading trips, but it has been developed as Range Rover's most road-based model yet.
