The third-generation Touareg SUV is the “biggest leap forward” in the history of the SUV, according to VW. The updated cabin features new technology, road-focused styling and a revamped interior, which features what the company calls its ‘Innovision Cockpit’.
The car will be powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine generating 278hp and 599Nm and a 3.0-litre V6 diesel making 225hp and 500Nm. You can also get a 3.0 V6 petrol version that makes 330hp and 450Nm. In some markets, a 357hp plug-in hybrid will arrive in late 2019. All engines will come mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, with standard all-wheel drive with five standard and four optional drive modes.
The car is built on the VW Group’s MLB platform, which also underpins the latest Porsche Cayenne, and it is wider and longer than its predecessor. In the cabin, the dashboard is built according to the company’s Innovision Cockpit, which merges a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. You get smartphone integration, air conditioning and seat massage functions, while analogue controls remain for the volume and other frequently used switches. The car features LED lighting all round, multi-coloured interior LED lighting and a massive panoramic roof. There is no news about when VW will bring the car here yet.
