The Alto beat the Dzire as the top-selling PV (personal vehicle) in October 2017. The Baleno finished in third with Hyundai’s Grand i10 and Maruti’s WagonR following.
Maruti’s market share now stands at 50.12 percent of the PV market with Hyundai having 16.44 percent. With 279,837 units, Maruti saw overall sales dip by 0.3 percent compared to September 2017, though it was still able to register growth of 9.25 percent with sales of 135,128 units (October 2016: 123,684).
The company sold 19,447 Altos to post a growth of 3.14 percent (October 2016: 18,854), while 17,447 Dzires (Diesel: 8,579 and Petrol: 8,868) were sold during October 2017. There are five more Maruti models in the Top 10 list, which includes the Baleno, Wagon R, Celerio, Swift and the Vitara Brezza.
The Baleno and Hyundai’s Grand i10 sold 14,532 units (growth of 35.58 percent) and 14,417 units (down from 14,530 units), respectively. Maruti’s WagonR managed 13,043 units, though the car registered a decline of 13.47 percent. Sales of the Celerio grew 27.42 percent to 12,209 units, thanks in part to the AMT gearbox.
The Swift sold 12,057 units, down 17.4 percent, compared to sales a year ago. The Vitara Brezza sold 11,684 units, up by 6.18 percent. Hyundai’s i20 managed sales of 11,012 units, and the i20 sold 11,532 units. Hyundai’s Creta managed sales of 9,248 units, an increase of 7 percent over last October’s sales of 8,670 units.
